Fun Learning Holiday

To enrich the students' June holidays, we have organized various Chinese programmes to cultivate interest in the Chinese language. Our programmes enable the children to develop this interest through fun yet educational activities such as Poems Recital, Chinese Idioms Games, Chinese Speech & Drama.

Poems Recital:

Through singing, reciting and animating Chinese poems and rhymes with music, it makes learning Chinese language more interesting.

Chinese Poetic Game:

Chinese Idioms Game:

The aim of the games above is for students to be more exposed to Chinese classical poems and idioms through the fun learning process.

Chinese Speech and Drama

Mandarin Stand Up Comedy is a traditional chinese cultural performance. As it involves public speaking and singing with witty humor, this kind of performance helps students to unravel the fun of learning Chinese and its culture. It also emphasize the practical use of Mandarin in real life.

Through practical and unconventional approaches, we hope to lead the students to learn through fun and be able to apply what they have learnt naturally. Students are led by teachers to explore and brainstorm by observing their surroundings, characters and objects. Students are strongly encouraged to voice their findings, ideas and opinions. Teachers will help them organize their ideas and teach them how to translate them into words. At the same time, we will take this opportunity to teach them the art of starting and ending a composition.

5. Reading
Star Student Care students will get to go to the library every Friday (3,10,17,24 June 2011) as we would like to cultivate in them an interest to read, to open up their minds and to increase the depth of knowledge. Came across a few quotations that I wouldn't agree more:

"Many things we need can wait. The child cannot. Now is the time his bones are formed, his mind developed. To him we cannot say tomorrow, his name is today."
— Gabriela Mistral

"There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world. Love of books is the best of all."
— Jacqueline Kennedy

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go."
— Dr. Seuss, "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!"

"Reading aloud with children is known to be the single most important activity for building the knowledge and skills they will eventually require for learning to read."
— Marilyn Jager Adams

Parents, we would also like to take this opportunity to cordially invite you to watch our students perform on the last week of the school holidays. Time to be confirmed. So don't forget follow our blog. If you can't make it, don't worry, we shall upload pictures and videos of your children in action in these lessons. So keep in touch!

INTRODUCTION

Hi readers, as a proverb saying goes, " Give a man a fish, you have fed him just for that day. Teach a man how to fish, and you will have him fed for a lifetime."

And it is with this in mind, we do not spoon feed our students but we impart relevant knowledge and lifelong learning skills to them.

Regarding our STUDENT CARE services:
Parents, are you too busy to
1) handle your child's schoolwork,
2) to fetch him/her up and down school, tuition classes,
3) check and make sure that he/she won't waste his/her time on the TV and the internet without supervision?
4) know who he/she befriend?
5) find out his/her whereabouts after school?

Or, do you find yourselves, breathing down their neck most of the time to push them to complete their unfinished homework at night after work? Thus, instead of having quality time to build relationship with your children, you ended up being upset and stressed.

There are a few solutions to these problems. Some parents will engage their old folks; some will employ maids and hire home tutors; and some others will look for before/after school student care services like ours.

What made us different is that we not only nanny your children,
1) Teachers at STAR STUDENT CARE focus on academic and character growth.
2) Provide quality tutorial classes.
3) Have good ties with schools, especially Punggol Primary and Fernvale Primary.
4) Have value-added transport service ( from school and back home - though this service is only limited to Fernvale, Sengkang, Punggol and Hougang estates)
5) Provide holiday enrichment programmes, learning journeys and excursions.

For more glimpse into a typical day at our centre. I will upload pictures soon in my future posts.

Enrichment Classes
Consider empower your children in specific areas, such as the ability to talk and present, to learn how to read, to know how to write creatively.

CREATIVE WRITING
What's your child's reaction when he or she needs to write a composition? Does he or she faces what we call the writer's block? Simply put it, he or she has no idea what to write? Or in another scenario, is his or her writing filled with erroneous sentence structures, grammatical errors, repetitive ideas and lack lustre descriptions.

Our Creative Writing Classes are created to suit the latest primary school MOE syllabus. Unlike dry, dull and plain drilling lessons, our lessons are carried out in a fun and educational approach based on themes, not sacrificing the need for practices.

From time to time, I may showcase our students' work so that you may better understand the benefits the students can reap out of these lessons.

PREPARATORY CLASS / PHONICS BASIC
Dear parents, do you have trouble finding a suitable preparatory class for your children who are going to Primary One? Currently, we already have a new preparatory class on Saturdays (9 - 10.30am). At the moment, we focus on P1 English and SHOW & TELL skills.
